  • Rideau Canal in Ottawa open for skating, January 23, 2011. It is the oldest continuously operated canal system in North America. In 2007 it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In winter part of the Rideau Canal starting from downtown Ottawa and towards Dows Lake becomes officially recognized world's largest skating rink.
